Southern Skillet Corn Bread




  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. Put butter in iron skillet and place in oven to preheat.
  3. Beat egg and add milk and oil.
    • Mix well.
  4. In a separate larger bowl, mix together corn meal and sugar.
  5. Once oven is heated and the butter in the pan is completely melted, add the egg, milk, and oil into the cornmeal and mix until all ingredients are wet.
  6. Over-mixing can cause the corn bread to come out too dense and hard.
  7. Pour mix in to skillet and bake for about 20-25 minutes.
  8. To test, poke bread with a fork.
  9. If it comes out clean, it’s done!
